Our U.S. subsidiary is growing, and we are seeking a Director of Business Development to drive revenue generation, strategic partnerships, and major program capture efforts.
About the role
The Director of Business Development (BD) – USA is responsible for leading all U.S.-based growth initiatives for Skyborne Technologies. This includes driving sales of Skyborne’s UAS and weapons platforms, identifying and securing new defense and federal opportunities, managing the capture lifecycle, establishing key industry partnerships, and supporting long-term U.S. strategy and market expansion.
This role is critical in building Skyborne’s footprint in the U.S. defense ecosystem and will operate with high autonomy, reporting directly to the CEO – USA.
Business Development & Sales
Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities across U.S. DoD, USSOCOM, DHS, and other U.S. federal or state agencies.
Lead end-to-end BD lifecycle including opportunity identification, customer engagement, capture management, and contract negotiation.
Develop and manage a qualified pipeline aligned with company strategic goals.
Achieve annual revenue and sales targets.
Capture & Proposal Leadership
Lead capture strategies for major defense programs, SBIR/STTR efforts, OTA opportunities, and international sales.
Oversee development of proposals, white papers, RFI/RFQ responses, and capability briefings.
Coordinate technical teams to align product capabilities with customer requirements.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong relationships with military program offices, procurement officials, and end-user communities.
Represent Skyborne at trade shows, demos, military exercises, and industry events.
Serve as a primary U.S. point of contact for key customer accounts.
Strategic Partnerships & Ecosystem Development
Identify and secure partnerships with primes, integrators, suppliers, and research institutions.
Support development of U.S. manufacturing and integration partnerships.
Monitor competitive and technological landscape to inform strategic decisions.
Product & Market Insight
Gather customer feedback to inform product improvements and new capability development.
Support operational testing, product demos, and evaluation campaigns.
Provide market intelligence reports to Executive Leadership.
What are we looking for?
Required Qualifications
10+ years operations leadership in defence, aerospace, robotics, or advanced manufacturing.
Proven track record winning U.S. defense or federal contracts (DoD, SOF, or Intelligence Community preferred).
Strong familiarity with ITAR/EAR, DoD contracting, and quality systems.
Proven program leadership and customer‑facing experience.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational capability.
Must be eligible for a U.S. Security Clearance (active clearance strongly preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
Existing network within U.S. Army, Marines, SOCOM, or DHS.
Prior military service or government contracting background.
Background in UAS, autonomous systems, weapons systems, or related fields.
Travel Requirements
Approximately 50% total travel required.
Majority of travel will be domestic within the United States, supporting operations, customer‑facing demonstrations, supplier visits, regulatory engagements, and test activities.
Occasional international travel to Europe and Skyborne Technologies’ Australian headquarters for program alignment, technical coordination, and strategic planning.
Must be able to travel to secure facilities, government sites, test ranges, and partner locations as required.
